Hi there,
Is there a place (maybe on mlb.com?) where pitch f/x data is readily available? What I’m looking for is data that would show the average speed for a pitcher’s pitches (say for the season) and the ability to compare that to their speed in the pitcher’s most current game(s).
Thanks,
Jeff Rich
I don’t believe there is an available database that would do what you want. If you want to set up your own database, I would suggest looking at Mike Fast’s article here.
Hi:
I want to know if there has been an increase in injuries to pitchers arms over the last 5 years or so.
And has there been an increase in pitchers on the disabled list with arm injuries over the last 5 years?
Do you have or where can I find out?
Thanks
I unfortunately only have DL injuries over the last 5 years but there has been an increase in arm injuries over the last 5 years. See this image below to see the differences as it pretty clearly has risen in the last 2-3 years.
Love the pitching analysis this year.
Could you please take a look at John Danks and tell me what you think? Merely slumping, or reason for owners to jump ship?
@Jeff Rich
In fangraphs.com they have the season average velocity for each pitcher’s pitches (by types). And in brooksbaseball.net you can find the pitch f/x and velocity per start. In the game logs of baseball-reference, they also have a link in each game for the pitch f/x data of brooks baseball.
Great site by the way. Great work by the authors.
Hi there. I’m a resident physician, and I was hoping to do more reading on injuries in the MLB. Could you tell me where you get the raw data for your site? I’d appreciate any help, and thanks so much for your time! Ted
Hello. I grab the data from everywhere on the internet and spending lots of time checking facts before putting it into the database. MLB injuries are easier to find information on, but generally I find it at Rotoworld, the local newspapers from each city, and national writers. Minor league injuries I have to go a lot deeper to find the information and usually focus on the very small local papers.
