Valverde and other news
Every day there are injury news and just when I think I heard them all, I hear about Jose Valverde needing a total of about 80 mL drained from his calf and will force him to miss about another 3 weeks for the incision to heal. To put it in perspective, 80 mL is roughly a quarter of a soda can. Imagine having that in the middle of your calf/shin. One risk other than the usual ones of infection and scar tissue is that the fluid will just return. Fantasy Impact: It looks like Valverde will miss most of May waiting for the incision to heal giving Hawkins the chance to close more games than I think he deserves.
Aramis Ramirez has been battling a calf strain of his own but will not go on the DL according to Sweet Lou Pinella. Fantasy Impact: You’ve dealt with it so far and so a couple more days won’t necessarily kill you.
Eric Chavez will likely be placed on the DL after reinjuring his forearm on Thursday. Fantasy Impact: In all honesty, I don’t think much. Who couldn’t see this coming at some point?
Joe Mauer is finally going to return today from his back pain and SI joint dysfunction. Fantasy Impact: Huge. The two time batting champion is finally returning and helping to solidify a somewhat iffy Minnesota offense. This will not only lead to more run opportunities for the others in the offense, the pitching staff may start to finally get some run support. Expect him to DH a game or two a week as usual.
